Bangkok, 11 December, 2007 (PRD), Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Internal Security General Sonthi Boonyaratglin has tasked the Election Commission (EC) to quickly resolve the issue concerning the distribution of a video CD containing speeches by ousted Prime Minister Doctor Thaksin Shinawatra. The VCD allegedly contains urgings from Doctor Thaksin to support members of his former power clique and party who are now in the People’s Power Party.
The People’s Power Party has affirmed that it has no involvement in the distribution of the media and states that it may be other parties conspiring against it. General Sonthi has asked that the EC investigate the issue as it directly affects the upcoming election.
The Deputy Prime Minister also commented on recent remarks given by the former premiere that were critical of the Council for National Security, which he said was not an issue as it was Doctor Thaksin’s right to give his opinion. General Sonthi believes that citizens will have their own opinions of the council.
