Busy Bus Schedule Expected for Songkran
For Thais hoping to travel home for Songkran, there is no shortage of buses. Bus service is being increased to handle hoards of revelers. There should be plenty of seats for all those hoping see loved ones during the festival. Songkran, Thailand’s biggest official holiday, runs from April 12-16. Preparation for Songkran usually begins two weeks prior to the festival days. The festival marks the beginning of the Thai New Year and is celebrated by much outdoor reveling including dowsing unsuspecting tourists with buckets of water. Wuttichart Kalayanimitr, chief of Transport Company Ltd. Announced an increase of 40% in the number of busses available for travelers. Over 220,000 persons have already traveled home for Songkran with an expected 250,000 more expected on the 11th and 12th. Services are expected to almost double on those days. 6,500 bus services are expected for each of day prior to the festival. In areas of instability, security has been beefed up to prevent trouble that might endanger passengers.
