Bangkok drivers will soon be facing a new danger. If they dare to run red lights, they will soon get a surprise in the mail. Traffic light cams, the scourge of drivers in the West are coming to Thailand.
If you are photographed running a red light, the photo will include your license number and a photo of your face. A copy of your photo and a traffic ticket will arrive in the mail along with the appropriate fine. 15 intersections so far have been equipped. A test showed 200 drivers ran red lights in a one week period.
The new system will go into affect on June 1. Photos of red light runners will be taken, their license plates researched and the appropriate tickets issued according to Police Major-General Panu Kerdlarbpol.
