Bangkok Airport Suvarnabhumi Keeps on Booming with New Projects
Suvarnabhumi Airport is set to keep expanding with 10 new projects valued at 73 billion baht. The new projects include more parking, a people mover, and a welcome noise reduction scheme.
Construction of a second domestic terminal is already in the works. It is expected to relieve congestion in the main terminal. The original second phase expansion plan included only five projects. The new version should keep the airport expanding until 2013. Two of the ten new projects should be finished within the year. These include construction of a third runway and also the hiring of the Project Management Consultant group. (PMC)
Don Mueng, Bangkok’s previous international airport was reopened in order to save money and scale back the spending at Suvarnabhumi. However the current government has decided to go ahead full speed in making the new airport Bangkok’s main hub. When complete, it will handle 60 million passengers a year.
