Hot Dry season affecting 10 Million People in Thailand
Drought conditions now prevail in 55 provinces of Thailand according to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center. Over 10 million people are affected.
In Chiang Rai province, drought conditions threaten farmers. Thai farmers are pushing to get in a second harvest of rice due to record prices. If there is not enough water, many farmers will suffer. Some reservoirs are only 30 to 40 percent full with another six to eight weeks of dry weather expected.
286 million liters of water have been dispatched to stricken by the government for drink and irrigation. The drought conditions are expected to last until well into the rainy season.
The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center is watching the situation closely to prevent a disaster from occurring.
