Thai Good Behavior Comics Coming Back to Thailand
The Thai Office of the National Culture Commission (ONCC) has recently published 100,000 copies of a comic style book entitled Sombat Khong Phudee (The Qualities of Decent People) for allotment to youth all over the country. Culture Minister Anusorn Wongwan said the book represented a light-hearted move toward to teaching youngsters the value of polite conduct.
The minister denied the book was associated to condemnation of the way Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej carries on in public with no regard for commonly held standards of language and conduct. Mr. Samak has often been criticized for his coarse mannerisms. The project to distribute the comic had been geared up before the condemnation of Mr. Samak ever emerged, he said. But he says he will mull over the contents of the comic book before requesting the prime minister and cabinet ministers to study it preceding to its publication just in case it hits to close to home.
ONCC secretary-general Preecha Kanthiya said the intent of the omic cbook was to renew civilized cultural standards and instill them in young children.
The comic book is tailored for kids from a book compiled by Chao Phraya Prasadet Surentrarthipbodi, who lead the Thammakarn Ministry throughout the reign of King Rama VI. The Thammakarn Ministry was later given the name the Education Ministry. The 80-page comic paperback has 10 chapters, turning about two young students as the major characters.
It instructs kids how to conduct yourself properly, to be enthusiastic about their work, to show kindness to others, to be selfless and to abstain from doing bad deeds.
