The Supreme Court in Bangkok, Thailand today sentenced 3 lawyers working for Thaksin to 6 months in jail far handing a box with pastries and 2,000,000 baht to a court official on June 10.
The 3 lawyers Pichit Chuenban, Suppasri Srisawasdi and lawyer Thana Tansiri.
The lawyer had made filing in court on June 10th and then handed a bag of pastries to court officials. A clerk looked into the bag and saw the 2,000,000 in cash. The court clerk asked the lawyer about the cash. Thaksins lawyer said “Divide the money up among yourselves.”
Pichit said in court that he and other lawyers had gone to the court to file on June 10th, having been sent by Thaksin and his wife Pojaman to file a request in Court. Pichit said they were there no longer than 30 minutes and had no gifts with them.
The ruling is final and the three cannot file the case with the Court of Appeal. Further legal action on another charge of criminal bribery is expected soon.
“The action by the three shows the intention to persuade court officials to commit wrongdoing,” the judge said. “This action is serious and the court sentences each to six months in jail,” it said.
Mr Thana did not show up for the court ruling. Mr Thana had asked the court to postpone the finding, claiming he had a headache and did not show up in court, a warrant was issued for his arrest today.
On June 10 Mr Pichit and his team, lawyers for Mr Thaksin and his wife Khunying were at court reporting that Mr Thaksin and his wife had returned home in Thailand from a trip overseas.
