England’s Peter Reid new Coach-Manager of Thailand’s National Football Team
Peter Reid, Former manager of England’s International team, also former Manchester City manager is set to take over as coach of the Thailand national team, a four year contract will be signed next month.
Peter Reid, the former Sunderland, Leeds United and Manchester City manager, will start the coaching job on September 1, 2008. His goal is to guide Thailand to their first World Cup finals in 2014.
Coach Reid’s first match up will be to take Thailand’s team to Saudi Arabia for the AFC Championships in November.
“This will be good for Coach Reid because we want him to see players not only in Bangkok but also in the provinces in Thailand.” Worawi Makudi, President of the Thai Football Association said.
As yet no backroom staff have been recruited to support Peter Reid, and Worawi admitted that there were financial restraints.”We have a limited budget. We will consider hiring staff later.” Worawi said.
Charnwit Polcheewin resigned last month as Thailand’s National Coach Thailand after being eliminated from 2010 World Cup qualifiers. Thailand lost all but one of six matches.
Peter Reid was recommended by England’s Football Association, will go to Thailand next month and sign a contract, Coach Reid will also be tasked with setting up provincial youth programs to develop future Thailand national team players.
