Thaksin and wife on Thailand’s most wanted list
Thailand’s Ex-Prime Thaksin Shinawatra and wife Potjaman have been added to Thailand’s most wanted list. The Royal Thai Police have issued arrest warrants for ex-premier. Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife Potjaman fled to London earlier this week to avoid many criminal corruption cases in Thailand against them.
Police have distributed warrants and ‘Wanted Posters’ in Thailand for Thaksin and his wife’s arrest. The distribution of arrest warrants has enraged Thaksin’s lawyer, Wichit Plangsrisakul, Wichit called it an attempt to humiliate Thaksin and his wife. “There is no need to distribute the arrest warrants because Thaksin has issued a statement that he and his family have traveled to England. The police act is inappropriate and may violate the defamation law,” Wichit said.
Mr Wichit also said that the OAG will not be able to extradite Thaksin from UK, as the court has convicted him of anything. Wichit also said Thaksin instructed his legal teams to handle all the cases in Thailand without his presence, including defamation charges to be filed against his critics.
Police spokesman Watcharapon Prasarnrajkit said that the warrant for Thaksin is enforcable for 15 years and warrant for arrest of Khunying Potjaman is enforced for 10 years.
Due to the fact that Thaksin and his wife are in UK, the police cannot arrest them, so they are requesting the prosecutors and related agencies to start the extradition process. Legal experts are saying Thaksin’s extradition may take a very long time.

“The extradition process is likely to have to wait until the court finds them guilty of the charges, which are also recognized by the country where they are staying,” said one legal expert.
Thaksin and his wife have not been convicted in the Ratchadapisek land case yet.
New Thai Foreign Minister Tej Bunnag said the extradition process would take time. Tej Bunnag also addressed Thaksin’s criticism of the judiciary system. The third pillar, the judiciary, has remained unaffected by the political changes. In fact, the Thai judiciary has always been a stable and steadfast fixture that is universally accepted by all sectors of Thai society”, the Foreign Minister said. “The Thai public has always had strong faith in the integrity and impartiality of the Thai judiciary and knows that it can be counted upon.”
