China’s world champion Wu Jingyu took the Olympic Gold in Taekwondo in the final of the Women’s 49kg defeating Thailand’s Buttree Puedpong.
Thailand’s Buttree Puedpong gets the WDH Gold for Best Spirit, after the Taekwondo Olympic bout Buttree Puedpong humbly said “I had dreamed just to wear the Thailand jacket in the Olympic Games and this is more than I had dreamed of.”
Wu knocked Buttree to the floor 3 times with high kicks aimed at the head in the opening rounds of the bout.
“I have been waiting for this day for a long time,” said Wu. “It’s a breakthrough for China in this weight category because no Chinese have won a gold in this before.”
