Thai General Panlop to take over protests if PAD’s Chamlong is arrested
Panlop Pinmanee will take over if People’s Alliance for Democracy ‘PAD’ leader Chamlong Srimuang is arrested for charges of treason. Panlop and Chamlong have been friends since attending Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy together.
Panlop said he would participate in the PAD-led protests should Chamlong be taken into police custody.
Panlop said he considered himself an aggressive strategist unlike Chamlong, whose approach was moderate.
“Go tell Mr Samak that if he is brave, he must order the arrest of Major General Chamlong and the other core leaders and disperse the protest.” Panlop said.
“Once the arrests are made, I will volunteer as the next leader in lieu of Chamlong as we have made some commitments. As a friend, I will pursue his goal. I need only two days and everything will end,” General Panlop said. “My decision to join PAD will take effect immediately once Chamlong is arrested,” Panlop said.
“It might be wise for Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej to resign now rather than being forced out of office,” Panlop said.
“Chamlong and I have a secret agreement to carry on one another’s legacy,” Panlop said.
Chamlong said; “Panlop told me he was ready to be my replacement if police arrest me and other PAD leaders.”
Panlop said there must be a breaking point in the PAD’s fight against the government.
“In this situation, Chamlong or Samak cannot take a step back. There must be a breaking point, otherwise the country will become disheartened. If we want to remove an abscess, we must be ready to face pain to get rid of the infectious part. It’s better than letting it become a chronic wound which will cause great damage to the country,” said Panlop.
