Thailand’s Military has asked Thai Prime Minister Samak to resign
Thailand’s Army commander Anupong has refused PM Samak’s request for Thai state of emergency and said PM Samak should resign or dissolve the Thai House of Representatives to ease political and economic tensions in Thailand.
General Anupong made statement in meeting with PM Samak shortly after meetings with Thai Defense Council. PM Samak had asked if the Thai army was ready to handle the situation if he declared a state of emergency on Friday night.
General Anupong did not conclude with PM Samak’s request of the emergency law from fear of violence.
“He refuses to mobilize troops even if the prime minister goes ahead and declares a state of emergency. He wants the PM Samak to first deploy police to handle the situation.”
The General Anupong also asked Mr Samak to consider resigning or dissolving the House of Representatives as possible options, the source said.
General Anupong said the Internal Security Operations Command would not step in to take control of protests. General Anupong also called on PAD leaders and Thai government to resolve the conflict through talks.
If the Thai military were to stage a coup, it would also dissolve the PAD.
“The coup would be proof that the Thai military cannot take sides with any party. A coup is to restore order,” a source said.
On Friday PM Samak was considering the Emergency Act, PM said he wanted to wait until after Saturday’s opening ceremony presided over by HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.
Samak said to the People’s Alliance for Democracy ‘PAD’ “Where do you people think you’re going with all of this? Are you Thai.”
PM Samak has vowed not to quit getting rid of PAD.
Samak Said; “I don’t want to announce a state of emergency, because that would destroy the atmosphere. I’ll hold off until tomorrow. It’s a grand event.”
The PAD has gone against Thai court orders to pull out of the Government House. Arrest warrants have been issued against the PAD leaders on charges of treason against Thailand.
Samak said to reporters that he was in for the long haul, Samak said. “Arrest warrants last for 10 years. I still have time to go after them.”
Samak canceled a visit to Japan scheduled Tuesday to Thursday next week.
