Coup in Thailand?
PM Samak said there will be no coup against Thai government and that he will attend the UN General Assembly in NYC later this month.
Amid high expectations of another coup in Thailand with ongoing PAD anti-government protests, recent student anti-government protests, economic instability, the Thai baht at a 19 month low against US dollar, tourism levels at record lows and labor strikes slowing commerce and trade.
“If the situation in Thailand continues like this and Thai people keep telling the army to launch a coup in Thailand, I don’t know what will happen.”
- Supreme Commander Boonsrang
The last coup in Thailand occurred when former PM Thaksin was ousted while attending same Assembly meeting in New York in September of 2006. Prime Minister Samak is widely seen as a puppet of former PM Thaksin.
Prime Minister Samak said today; “I will go to speak at the UN, even though Thaksin went to speak there and did not return. I can still handle the situation. The army chief has already said there is no reason to launch a coup in Thailand,” Samak said.
