Thailand’s Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a second arrest warrant for Thaksin who fled Thailand last month just as he was to appear in a corruption case. Thaksin’s lawyers appeared at court today, but Thaksin says he intends to remain in the UK.
Thaksin is accused of using his influence to approve a 4 billion baht in low-interest loans to Burma to develop its telecommunications system, the deal was made with the Burmese government to buy telecommunications equipment from Thaksin’s company, Shin Corp, where his family was the majority shareholder.
Mr Thaksin has denied that he or his family has done any wrongdoing.
The Burma loan case is one of several criminal corruption cases against Thaksin and his family.
