Red Shirts vs. Blue Shirts
Prime Minister Abhisit visited the northeastern part of Thailand on Saturday. He landed at Buri Ram airport at 9.00am surrounded by tight security. He and His entourage were appearing in order open government projects designed to improve his image in the pro-Thaksin areas. First stop was the provincial railway station to open a station library, then going to Lam Plai Mat district to examine other government projects.
A government security helicopter followed Abhist’s group all along the route.
Red-shirt pro democracy demonstrators seeking to return an elected government to power gathered at Nang Rong district and moved to Lam Plai Mat to stage a protest.
However, when they entered Lam Plai Mat, they were met by two six-wheeled trucks and were encircled by about 500 pro-military coup government supporters wearing blue.
The blue shirted group was hired by the Bhumjaithai Party, which has nine members of parliament in the province. They kept up their threatening blockade of the pro-democracy protesters until Mr Abhisit ended his provincial tour and returned to Bangkok last night.
