Deputy Prime Minister Quits Parliament
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban has resigned from Parliament after the Election Commission’s stated that he had violated the constitution by holding shares in businesses with government contracts.

Mr Suthep will not, however, quit the post of Deputy Prime Minister.
He was one of 28 Democrat MPs probed for the alleged wrong doing.
The Election committee has proposed the disqualifying of 13 MPs, including Mr Suthep, for violating the ban.

The Thai government charter prohibits MPs from holding ownership in media and telecom companies or from holding shares in any firms operating with government contracts.

Mr Suthep said he had decided to quit as an MP because he did not want to get involved in an imminent drawn-out court battle.
