Thailand Applies for U.N. Security Council Seat
The Thai Prime Minister’s cabinet on Tuesday concurred that Thailand would submit an application for a seat on the United Nations Security Council as a temporary member during the 2017-2018 term, as put forward by the nation’s Foreign Ministry, according to deputy government spokesman Vachara Kannikar.
Thailand sat as a non-permanent member of the Security Council once before, in 1985-1986.
The UN Security Council is comprised of five undeviating members – China, Russia, France, the United Kingdom and the United States. There are also ten non-permanent members.
