UDD Gathers 5.4 Million Signatures for Thaksin
The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) plans to forward its petition for a royal pardon for convicted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, to the palace before Aug 12.
The group has finished its signature-gathering operation as of yesterday and claims its petition has the names of 5.4 million people.
UDD leaders said the list is now being checked for accuracy and would be submitted to His Majesty the King in the next ten days.
Red-shirt demonstrators who were present at Friday’s rally were requested to rally again at the Interior Ministry Monday to voice objection against Interior Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul, who commanded provincial authorities to commence a counter-campaign in opposition to the UDD’s petition.
