Burmese Bomb Rumors
Thailand’s intelligence services are endeavoring to confirm reports that the Burmese military regime is constructing a nuclear reactor with hopes to create a nuclear bomb in five years.
National Security Council chief Thawil Pliensri has arranged for intelligence officials to confirm the reports and stated yesterday that so far no evidence has been established that indicates a Burmese nuclear program exists.
Thai Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Vimon Kidchob said that the Thai embassy in Burma had not received any data about a nuclear scheme’ but would closely monitor the issue.
Miss Vimon did not suppose Burma would defy the agreement to keep Southeast Asia a nuclear-free zone.
“I am confident that all members of the SEANWFZ are adhering to this principle,” she stated on Wednesday.
Rumors abound that the Burmese junta is receiving support from Russia and North Korea to build up a nuclear program.
