Airport Crackdown Gets Underway
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban has requested that the public send him any information about supposed unlawful activities involving taxis, tour guides, or extortion of suspected shoplifters at Suvarnahbumi Airport.

Suthep requested the information to assist in his crusade to clean up the chaos at the airport, which is the gateway to Thailand. Many arriving tourists have encountered taxi cheats and fake tour guides upon their arrival. There have also been cases where tourists accused of shoplifting at the duty free shops have reported extortion demands by Thai police.

The Prime Minister’s Cabinet has assigned Suthep to lead an operation to fight prohibited activities and corruption at the airport. He will call a meeting soon to discuss his strategy for cleaning up the airport with businesses operating there.
