Amnesty Proposal for Banned Politicians
Thailand’s Bhumjaithai Party will draft a new law giving amnesty for all of the country’s political groups in the House of Representatives on Wednesday with hopes to promote reconciliation throughout the kingdom, according to party spokesman Chavarat Charnveerakul.
Speaking to reporters following a party gathering on Tuesday, Mr Chavarat stated that the draft legislation is proposed to be an amnesty for all of those who have committed political wrongdoings, regardless of their affiliations.
The proposed law will be presented to the House of Representatives Wednesday, according to the interior minister.
Mr Chavarat pointed out that Thailand has been cursed with unreasonable political quarrels, causing violent political altercations, and negatively affecting economic and social conditions.
The proposed law would not cover politicians who have been banned from political activity as a result of party dissolution or having been charged with lese majeste.
