Drug Traffickers Feel the Heat
Thai Police have placed under arrest nine suspected drug traders, including several foreigners, in separate incidents in Bangkok, Suphan Buri and Trang. Seized were about a ton of marijuana and more than 60,000 amphetamine pills.
According to Deputy national police chief Chumpol Manmai, Phoon Ken Huat, 26, a Malaysian man, Danny Lim Kian Hong, 37, a Singaporean, and Ayong sae Chang, 23, were arrested in a raid in Bangkok’s Bung Kum district in possession of 990 bags of marijuana weighing approximately a ton.
The raid followed a tip from authorities in the Netherlands following the seizure of about 500kg of marijuana, supposedly shipped from Thailand.
Pol Gen Chumpol staed that the marijuana had been packed into cardboard boxes bound for sale in the Netherlands. He continued, “The local price of marijuana is around 10,000 baht a kilogram, but it could go up six times on the streets overseas,”
In a separate raid yesterday, four people were arrested on suspicion of selling drugs during a police operation in Bang Pla Ma district in Suphan Buri.
The Police raid seized about 64,000 methamphetamine pills and two motor vehicles altogether worth an estimated value of over 60 million baht.
