PAD Office Attacked in Chiang Mai
A People’s Alliance for Democracy office in Chiang Mai province has been struck by small home-made bombs, damaging two cars and breaking a glass door.
A 60-year-old woman at a merit-making rite to commemorate the opening of the office received a broken leg in the ensuing confusion.
The incident took place at 2pm Sunday at the office of the PAD northern network on Kong Sai Road, close to Mor Wong hospital.
Witnesses stated that two vans with about 20 people wearing crash helmets pulled up in front of the office, armed with batons, tried to beat up those attending the merit-making event.
This was followed by the sound of explosions.
Police spokesmen said that the bombs used in the attack were mostly ping pong balls filled with gunpowder.
A local radio station operated by a pro-Thaksin Shinawatra group in Chiang Mai had just that morning urged red shirt supporters to assemble and they were requested not to wear red.
