Lethal Injection for Drug Dealers
Thailand has executed two convicted drug traffickers at Bang Khwang prison by lethal injection.
Bundit Jaroenwanit, 45, and Jirawat Poompreuk, 52, became the country’s fifth and sixth persons to be killed by lethal injection, which replaced death by firing squad in 2003.
The mood at the prison in Nonthaburi was quiet yesterday when the two were told they were about to die.
They were given one hour to call or write to their families. They then had a last meal and listen to a sermon from a Buddhist monk from Wat Bang Praek Tai.
They were blindfolded and given flowers and carried candles and incense sticks with them to the execution chamber.
They each received three injections. The first injection was a sedative, the second was a muscle relaxant and the third was a drug that stops the heart.
