Thaksin Fears for His Followers
Thailand’s former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is calling on his red shirt followers to be careful before demonstrating on Sunday due to the preparation for invoking of the internal security law against them.
Thaksin announce to his followers in a radio broadcast yesterday that he was worried for their safety.
The current government plans to implement the Internal Security Act from Saturday until Tuesday in Bangkok’s Dusit district, where United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) demonstrators were expected to congregate at Government House on Sunday.
The law will enable authorities to increase security measures and permit them to enforce order.
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister, Suthep Thaugsuban, who supervises national security, said the implementation of the law involved creating road checkpoints to inspect vehicles for weapons.
