Red Shirts to Postpone Rally
Thailand’s red-shirted United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) is anticipated to postpone its anti-government rallies until the next round of Asean gatherings in October, according to senior Democrat Party members.
Party spokesman Buranaj Smutharaks stated that the postponement of yesterday’s assembly might signify that the pro-Thaksin red shirt group would try to humiliate the government during the coming Asean summit, planned for Oct 23 to 25, in the seaside resort areas of Cha-am in Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Hua Hin.
Dr Buranaj said the Thai government’s standing in the global community had been tarnished in April when it failed to stop the red shirts from invading the Asean summit venue at a hotel in Pattaya, forcing the participating political leaders to flee to safety. UDD co-leader Jatuporn Prompan yesterday stated that his group would reschedule its gathering for each remaining Saturday in September, starting next Saturday, Sept 5.
