Impartial Panel Suggested for Resolving ASEAN Ddisputes
Thailand’s Foreign Minister, Kasit Piromya is making preparations to recommend the creating of an impartial institution to handle disagreements among countries in the Southeast Asian area at the Asean Summit scheduled to happen on Oct 23-25.
Mr Kasit told the media on Thursday that he deemed that this could be a setting for Thailand and Cambodia to resolve their border row.
He stated that the government will stick with to the principle of peaceful compromises and non-violence in dealing with the disagreement over the 4.6-square-kilometre vicinity around the Preah Vihear temple.
Mr Kasit maintained that Thailand has not given up the 4.6-square-kilometer zone to Cambodia.
Mr Kasit said,”I will seek approval at the Asean Summit for the establishment of neutral organization to resolve disagreements among Asean countries. This may provide a way for Thailand and Cambodia to settle the dispute.”
