Train Operator in Crash Surrenders to Police
An inquiry into the cause of the train derailment that killed eight riders and injured 88 others early on Monday in Thailand will be revealed next Monday, State Railway of Thailand (SRT) governor Yuthana Thapcharoen told reporters on Friday.
Ruengsak Panthep, the driver of the wrecked train, who went missing from the scene, turned himself in to Hua Hin police follwing the public announcement that an arrest warrant had been issued for him.
According to information given by Mr Yuthana, Mr Ruengsak told authorities he had taken medication that had caused him to become unconscious while operating the train. He will undergo a medical exam.
After police questioning, Mr Rerngsak was allowed to go home.
