Hitler in Pattaya
A billboard depicting a likeness of Adolf Hitler along with three others showing famous historical figures conspicuously located along the main road into Pattaya as part of an advertising campaign to promote Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks contains the Thai-language slogan: “Hitler is not dead.”
The Museum’s director said that since the billboard went up more than two weeks ago they have received around 100 complaints as well as a protest letter from the Israeli Embassy.
He said the museum would come up with another famed deceased person to substitute for the German dictator.
The German Ambassador, Hanns Schumacher saw the billboard when he attended the opening ceremonies of the Child Protection and Development Centre in Pattaya last weekend. He commented to civic leaders that “this kind of utterly tasteless advertisement would hurt the feelings of many people.”
Speaking of tasteless, this week is the vegetarian festival in Thailand. Hitler was a well known vegetarian himself although he was unable to resist the temptation of liver dumplings.
