Bombing in Yala
A bomb went off at a busy market in the southern province of Yala on Monday injuring twenty-four people, together with three soldiers.
Police said the explosive contrivance was hidden in a motorcycle that was parked in front of the marketplace in the town. It exploded about 7.30am when local inhabitants were shopping for provisions.
Police are investigating as to whether it was detonated by a call from a mobile phone.
Witnesses told police that two men, aged 30 to 35, left the motorcycle there.
First Army Region commander Lt-Gen Pichit Wisaijorn placed responsibility for the attack on insurgents. 3,700 people have been killed in Southern Thailand since an Islamic insurgency began six years ago.
