Thai Trains not Rollin’ Round the Bend
Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Monday that the four-day railway union strike will be ended as rapidly as is doable.
The labor union of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) had brought to a standstill train services in the South for four successive days; citing the necessity to repair the aged locomotives to guarantee passengers’ well-being.
The delay of South-bound train services left thousands of travelers stranded and is causing about 15 million baht in losses each day according to an SRT spokesperson.
The Prime Minister’s cabinet meeting on Tuesday will mull over proposals to recommence the southern train operation, Mr Abhisit is quoted to have said.
He added that the South-bound train services should resume as accustomed within two to three days.
