700,000 Baht Bomb Detector Fails Real Life Test
A Thai military team inspected a suspicious motorcycle with a GT200 bomb scanner, but the device did not detect a bomb. The bomb on board the motorcycle exploded about 15 minutes after the military squad had left the scene with their not so effective bomb detector. Online skeptics claim the 700,000 baht GT200 is merely a dowsing rod type device and incapable of detecting the actual presence of anything.
Police searched through the market area for clues after Monday’s bomb assault, which wounded 25 bystanders.
An Islamic insurgent group was accused recently of killing five soldiers and was also believed to be involved in numerous bomb attacks in the recent past. They are suspected in this attack as well.
In this incident, a home-made bomb weighing somewhere around seven and 10 kilogram’s, detonated at 7.30am.
Banpot Poonpien, deputy spokesman for the Internal Security Operations Command, said it was believed that the bomb was triggered by a mobile phone because SIM card was found among the bomb debris.
