Hun Sen Seemingly Insults Thai Hosts
Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen said after arriving at Hua Hin airport that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra may become his economic adviser.
The statement was made as Hun Sen arrived for the ASEAN summit to be held this week.
“I plan to appoint Mr Thaksin as my economic adviser,” He was reported to have said.
“I can do it because I act under the sovereignty of Cambodia.
“If millions of Thais support Thaksin, why can’t I?”
“If people can talk about Aung San Suu Kyi, why can’t I talk about Thaksin?
Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said the Cambodian Prime Minister may be getting false information from Thaksin.
Mr Abhisit added “I consider Prime Minister Hun Sen as a senior and experienced person and he should not become someone else’s pawn.”
Mr Abhisit disagreed that Thaksin and Aung San Suu Kyi were persons of comparable character just because both were elected and then held from office by their respective militaries.
