Abhisit Opens ASEAN Conference
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva says that Asean leaders must focus their efforts to make the proposed Southeast Asia economic area a reality by 2015,
In addressing the opening formal procedure of the Asean summit yesterday, Mr Abhisit robustly upheld the role of the Asean secretary-general in conveying pressing issues to the notice of the bloc’s leaders for urgent action.
Asean must develop into an area where goods, people and investments can move across borders without facing impediments, he said.
“The challenge of logistics must also be jointly addressed. The missing links in respective infrastructure development projects should also be completed by the end of the five-year Asean Transport Action Plan in 2010,” is was quoted as saying in local media.
Mr Abhisit said he hoped that people all over the Asean area could be joined both materially and through their hearts and intellects.
