Cambodian P.M. Gets Earful About Thaksin’s Trespasses
Thailand’s deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban told reporters on Tuesday that he had enlightened Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to the issues surrounding the legal problems of military-coup-ousted former popularly elected Premier Thaksin Shinawatra and Mr Hun Sen had promised him that he would not interfere in Thai politics.
Mr Suthep said that he had explained to Mr Hun Sen at some stage in the weekend’s Asean gathering that Thaksin had not been unfairly treated as he has been claiming. He claimed that Thaksin was convicted legally of crimes committed as Prime Minister. And that he fled to avoid a jail term. Thaksin was accused of corruption because if irregularities surrounding a land purchase.

Suthep explained that “The post-coup government stayed for only one year and a new constitution was approved by the people in a public referendum. And that, “Thaksin and his men accepted the constitution, took part in the elections and their party was the winner and subsequently formed governments in which Samak Sundaravej and Somchai Wongsawat were the prime ministers.”
The two popularly elected pro-Thaksin P.M.s were forced out by legal troubles as well as mob actions by well financed pro-military dictatorship groups, most notably the PAD who blocked and closed down Thailand’s main airports and government buildings with military cooperation to bring down the popularly elected government and replace it with the new unelected government. No elections have been scheduled by the current unelected pro-coup government. Thai society has been in a state of chaos since the September 19, 2006 Coup.

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva told reporters after Tuesday’s cabinet meeting on that he trusts that Cambodia understands the issue better since Mr Suthep’s explanation.
