Tourists Turn Away From Thailand
International tourist arrivals to Thailand will diminish by 38% to 1.5 million this year due to the doggedness of global economic troubles and local political volatility. This is according to The Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA).
Surapol Sritrakul, the association’s president, said advance reservations for the high season had been greatly reduced. The association anticipates that the number of tourists arriving in the last two months of the year will be lower even than in 2007, which totaled 470,000.
This year so far, ATTA reported tourist arrivals through its members dropped by 30% year-on-year to 1.257 million. The worst numbers were in October with only around 89,388.
Mr Surapol continued that the greates drop in visitors came from South Korea, whose visitors dropped by 56.5% to 70,526, followed by Japan, down 38.4% to 135,202, and Finland, dropping by 37.9% to 8,095.
