Thaksin’s Brother in Law Says Thaksin not Toxic
Thai Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, should carefully consider the plan to annul a memorandum of understanding on the overlapping maritime boundaries between Thailand and Cambodia in the Gulf of Thailand signed in conjunction with Cambodia back in 2001, according to ex-premier Somchai Wongsawat.
Mr Somchai, the brother-in-law of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said,”The MOU revocation would damage the country and cause difficulties to Thai people.”
When he was asked about Thaksin’s new appointment as an economic adviser to the Cambodian government and special personal advisor to Hun Sen, Mr Somchai said that it has not caused any harm to Thailand.
Mr Somchai told reporters “It is an honour for Thaksin as he is accept by a foreign country. The government should not let personal feelings decide its foreign relation policy.”
The statements were in response to what Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya said earlier in the week about a proposal regarding the MOU revocation plan.
