Thaksin Still Toxic to Dems
A spokesman for Thai Prime Minister and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, Thepthai Senpong, furiously criticized ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra because of his interview with The Times, saying the statements in the dialogue were insulting to the royal institution.
It is the discussion that seemed most distasteful to the royal body, he said.
Richard Lloyd Parry, Asia editor of The Times, held an interview with Thaksin at his home in Dubai and the transcription was posted by Timesonline today.
His report said Thaksin had called for reform of the monarchy.
Mr Thepthai called on everyone to act on this subject, saying that it negatively affected feelings of many Thais.
Another Democrat Party spokesman said that this isn’t the first time Thaksin has offended the monarchy.
The Democrat Party, which continues to rule unelected, (with no elections scheduled for the future), through the support of the military coup makers and the yellow shirted PAD mobs that closed the main airport in Bangkok is reportedly threatening reprisals against media outlets that report the contents of Thaksin’s interview.
Thaksin was removed from office by a military coup three years ago. He has been accused and convicted of abuse of office for a land purchase made by members of his family.
