Tiger Tourism Conference in Thailand
A tiger tourism conference is expected to promote the Kingdom as a new destination for tiger devotees.
“This year is the Year of the Tiger, and Thailand will benefit from this event. Our country has the potential to become a place for tourists to go for tigers,” Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suwit Khunkitti announced yesterday.
Thirteen natural-resources and environment ministers alongside with experts from across Asia are joining the conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Hua Hin. It runs from Wednesday until Saturday.
More than 100 partners of delegates are also expected to come to the nation, dropping more than Bt13 million into the neighboring economy.
Aside from protection talks, the meeting should help Thailand showcase new tourism themes: tigers and ecotourism.
Only 200-250 of the big cats continue to live in Thailand, and more than 100 of them reside in national parks in the western region, Suwit said.
“I’ll take this opportunity to promote the region as a new tourism attraction featuring tigers,” he told reporters.
