Red Shirt Rally Must Remain Respectful
Thai Red-shirt marchers are free to rally in front of army headquarters on Friday, but they must obey the law, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban held on Thursday.
Members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) say they will congregate tomorrow to insist the army publicly clarify the rumors of a pending takeover of the Government.

Mr Suthep said defense forces had made preparations to handle the pending anti-government rallies. Police would be in charge of upholding peace and order, but soldiers would be positioned if the situation gets out of control.
The protests would be permitted, provided they remained within the law.

Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said the anti-government pressure group’s plans to protest at the armed forces headquarters, and later at air force headquarters, and demand explanation of coup rumors was pointless. The army had already made it clear there would be no coup d’état at this time and people should not be perturbed by the rumors.

Gen Prawit said people spreading the coup rumors were not aiding the kingdom’s image.
