Counterfeit Travel Documents Seized in Bangkok
Thai Police confiscated fake passports and visas worth more than 5 million baht during a search in Samut Sakhon on Friday.
However, the criminals had been tipped off about the raid and escaped the scene before police had arrived, Justice Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga told reporters.
In a joint press conference with Spanish and British law enforcement attaches yesterday, the minister announced that more than 240 articles were seized including bogus passports, visas and seals, as well as rubber stamps used to forge the travel papers.
The concentrated effort was a consequence of collaboration between the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Spanish and British embassies, he told reporters.
Mr Pirapan said there are two major criminal gangs selling forged passports in Thailand.
