Thaksin’s Two Billion Dollars
The total of 76 billion baht in frozen assets of ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra could be confiscated as the court is being demanded to do so by Thaksin’s adversaries, Jaturon Chaisaeng, former acting head of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai Party, announced on Saturday afternoon.
Mr. Jaturon asserted that the court is being told to rule against Thaksin by people in the regime, the anti-Thaksin People’s Alliance for Democracy and the now non-operational Assets Scrutiny Committee.
The rivals of the former prime minister have been attempting to mislead the society that there possibly will be conflict if the court ruled not to seize Thaksin’s cash.
He called on Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and the Democrat-led alliance organization to stop trying to influence the court.
Mr. Jaturon persisted that his move was not for placing force on the court, but he just desires to bring back calm and order in the nation.
The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions has planned to read its judgment on Feb 26 on whether to confiscate the 76 billion baht of frozen assets of Thaksin and his family.
