Thai Army and Police Being Mobilized Against Red-Shirts
A Combined force of Thai police, armed forces and civilian forces will be posted to 38 prefectures starting Feb 15, where the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) is anticipated to step up actions in the lead-up to Feb 26 verdict on whether to confiscate the 76 billion baht assets of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his family. Acting government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said on Monday.
The government spokesperson said 160-200 checkpoints would also be progressively set up in Bangkok and nearby zones after Feb 15.
The government would keep the circumstances under watch and enforce special laws, mainly the Internal Security Act, if needed, Mr Panitan said.
He said strict measures would carry on even after Feb 26 because a number of UDD groups might still be engaged in demonstrations.
