Thaksin’s Money on Trial
Thai prosecutors said in their closing argument before the Thai Supreme court that former Prime Minister Thaksin acquired his assets through misuse of his authority. They also listed suspected conflicts of interest.
They urged that the assets be impounded and transferred to the state.
Somporn Pongsuwan, a legal representative speaking on behalf of Khunying Potjaman na Pombejra, Thaksin’s ex- wife, presented a closing report rebutting the prosecution arguments by focusing on 16 key areas.
Kittiporn Adulrat, an attorney representing two of Thaksin’s three children, Panthongtae and Pinthongta, said that the two would present their closing arguments today.
The court will convey its finding on whether the assets were obtained illegally on Feb 26.
If he is found guilty, Thaksin would lose the 76 billion baht he purportedly amassed during his two terms in office from 2001 to 2006.
