GT200 and Alpha 6 Embarrassment Continues
The Thai government is looking into the history of the purchase of GT200 “bomb detectors” bought by state agencies at diverse prices, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva says.
All government agencies that have used the substance “scanner” have been asked to present details on what they paid for the device.
The “scanner” is currently used by the air force, army, police, Customs Department and the Central Institute of Forensic Science. The price paid by the different agencies varies from 550,000 baht each by the police to the 1.2 million baht paid by the institute.
The device was purchased through different agents. Mr Abhisit said yesterday that the underlying problem of the device was still its “inefficiency”, not the price.
The GT200 and the Alpha 6 are of course simple “dowsing” or “divining rods,” and are no more effective than a coat hanger wire through a toilet tissue roll.
An inquiry would be ordered into the purchase of the devices
