GT200 Detects Delusional Army Brass

≡ Category: Editorial |Comments Off

Definition of “Delusional” from Merriam Webster Dictionary
1 : the act of deluding : the state of being deluded
2 a : something that is falsely or delusively believed or propagated b : a persistent false psychotic belief regarding the self or persons or objects outside the self that is maintained despite indisputable evidence to the contrary; also : the abnormal state marked by such beliefs

The GT200 “bomb detector” dowsing rod device which failed miserably under scientific testing conditions since it is only a swiveling rod attached to a handle to appear as though it is pointing at things has done what dowsing rods always have done for 100 years, reveal how credulous humans can be. Dowsing has been shown to be a false belief many times in the last 100 years. The way the trick originally worked is that the dowser would use the rod, claiming to be able to detect where to drill a well. If water was not found where he suggested, he was not paid. Of course his choice of where to dig was no better than random chance, but he would still be paid quite often. Just like the dowser and the well, sometimes the GT200 will appear to work. It has been tested and shown not to work. To persist in the false belief that it does work fits the dictionary definition of delusional. The GT200 like the dowsing rods that came before it is actually very good at detecting delusion.
