Thais Not Overly Concerned About Political Violence After Thaksin Ruling

Next Friday February 26, the Thai Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for holders of Political Positions will give its judgment on whether 76 billion baht in frozen assets held by exiled former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his relatives should be seized by the state.

The analysis, conducted on Feb 19 and 20, involved 1,515 persons living in Bangkok and close by regions.

73 per cent of the respondents said they had watched the news broadcasts about the Thaksin assets confiscation case.

Asked if they were worried about possible violent behavior after the verdict was handed down, 85.3 per cent said they were not apprehensive and they would go on with their lives as always. 11.7 per cent said they were anxious and may hoard more food and consumer goods.
