Visitors to Chiang Mai and Phukett are being warned of the existence of vacation club scams where tourists agree to attend a 90 minute presentation by a “vacation club” where they are given presentation offering to save them money on future hotel and resort bookings. The sales people seek to get the tourists to immediately join the “vacation club” for about $7,000 U.S. dollars, claiming they will save money using the club’s web site to book hotels, cruises etc. However, after the client pays the money, they discover that they save nothing over the price they can get from using any other online service such as Expedia.com. The companies often change names and move about Thailand to different tourist destinations. Chiang Mai is the most recent location at which they are reported to be operating.
