Thaksin Shinawatra is Now 46 Billion Baht Poorer
At a gathering of about 300 red shirts at the Puea Thai Party headquarters yesterday there was anger and tears at the Supreme Court’s final judgment which was conveyed at 8.50pm.
Even though the decision could not have come as a total surprise, the red shirts sustained high spirits throughout a day that could not precisely be portrayed as eventful. The lengthy, monotonous reading of the court’s weighing up of the evidence had the dual effect of inducing increased anticipations and drawn out boredom.
Thaksin”s most loyal supporters, mostly middle-aged women, sat pasted to their chairs in front of the projector’s screen until late in the evening, listening to each word spoken by the judges and occasionally shouting their disapproval.
The court ordered confiscation of most of Thaksin’s after evidence indicated that he had abused his power for personal gain.
