Thailand’s Consumer Prices Increase
Thailand’s consumer price index (CPI) for February 2010 increased from the same month last year by 3.7 per cent and by 0.56 per cent over January to stand at 106.88, the Ministry of Commerce announced on Tuesday.
The groceries and beverage index for February 2010 was 120.39, up 5.1 per cent from over last year and 1.39% from January.
The non-food index stands at 98.36, a boost of 2.9 per cent from February 2009, and 0.07 per cent over the past January.
“The increase in CPI clearly showed that the Thai economy is improving in both the agricultural and industrial sectors”, the ministry’s permanent secretary Yanyong Phuangrach was quoted in local media.
Mr Yanyong said the Thai economy this year would principally be influenced by the restorative international economy, the country’s political state of affairs and the government’s gauges to control the prices of commodities.
